Skiffle was the genre through which British and Irish teenagers started making music themselves in the 1950s: cheap guitars, washboard, and tea-chest bass, drawing on American folk and blues repertoire. Van Morrison grew up with it and devoted a double album to it in 2023: 23 songs, mostly covers of standards such as Freight Train, Careless Love, Cotton Fields, and Worried Man Blues, plus a number he gave his own arrangement and new lines of lyric. Country material by Hank Williams (Cold Cold Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry) and Don Gibson (Oh Lonesome Me) is in there too. This edition is a 2-LP on blue vinyl.
