Northwinds is the second solo album by David Coverdale, released in 1978. Coverdale recorded it after his departure from Deep Purple and shortly before founding Whitesnake later that same year. The album was produced by former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, who also played synthesizer and clavinet. The recordings took place at AIR Studios in London and Musicland Studios in Munich, with contributors including guitarist Micky Moody, who became a co-founder of Whitesnake shortly afterwards. Musically, the album combines blues rock with soul and subdued ballads, including the title track. The album was released on Purple Records.
