Quadrophenia follows Jimmy, a mod in the London of 1964, whose four personalities Townshend based on the four band members; each gets its own musical theme that returns across the double album. It is The Who's sixth studio album and, after Tommy, their second full rock opera, with 'The Real Me', '5:15', 'Love, Reign O'er Me' and the instrumental 'The Rock'. Townshend recorded most of the synthesiser layers and the sea and rain sounds himself while the band were still fitting out their own Ramport studio. The album originally appeared in 1973 on Track Records. This edition is a 2-LP, half-speed mastered and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.
