Rainbow Connection started with Nelson's daughter Amy, who spent twenty years trying to persuade her father to record the title song written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher, known from Kermit the Frog in The Muppet Movie. The album originally appeared in 2001 on Island Records and was recorded in late 2000 and early 2001 at Nelson's ranch near Spicewood, Texas, with Amy Nelson as one of the producers. What was meant as a children's record grew into a mix of playground songs, lullabies, and grown-up material, from I'm My Own Grandpa to Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In). This edition is a 180g LP.
