Bryan Ferry

Bryan Ferry founded Roxy Music at the start of the seventies and began a career of his own while the band was still running, in 1973 with These Foolish Things, an album of covers. As a solo artist he ran two lines side by side: his own work, moving from art rock towards polished, sensual pop (Boys and Girls, Bete Noire, Avonmore), and readings of other people's repertoire, from Bob Dylan (Dylanesque) to the standards of the 1930s (As Time Goes By). With The Bryan Ferry Orchestra he recast his own songs as 1920s jazz arrangements. His heavy vibrato and his image of the man in the dinner jacket made him one of the best known British singers of his generation. In 2025 he returned with Loose Talk, made with artist and writer Amelia Barratt.
