Def Leppard

Def Leppard formed in Sheffield in 1977 and came out of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Working with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the band built the stacked guitar layers and multi-tracked choruses of Pyromania (1983) and Hysteria (1987); both albums sold more than ten million copies in the United States and produced songs such as Photograph, Rock of Ages, Animal and Pour Some Sugar on Me. Their history also holds hard blows: drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car crash at the end of 1984 and returned behind an electronic kit built specially for him, and guitarist Steve Clark died in January 1991. The band carried on with Vivian Campbell, from the rougher Slang in the nineties through to Diamond Star Halos in 2022. Def Leppard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
