Eagles

The Eagles came together in Los Angeles in 1971, when Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner met in Linda Ronstadt's backing band. The early records layer country rock over close harmony singing, with Take It Easy, Desperado and Lyin' Eyes as the reference points. From One of These Nights onwards the sound tilted towards rock, and the arrival of Joe Walsh in 1975 brought the guitar pairing that shaped Hotel California (1976). The band split in 1980 after The Long Run and stayed apart until the Hell Freezes Over reunion in 1994. Glenn Frey died in 2016 and Randy Meisner in 2023; Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit have carried on, with Vince Gill alongside them since 2017. The RIAA lists Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 as the best-selling album of all time in the United States.
