Trespass is the second studio album by the British band Genesis, released in 1970. It marks the transition from the early, more pop-oriented style of their debut toward the ambitious progressive rock for which the group would later become known. The record was still made with singer Peter Gabriel, keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist Mike Rutherford, guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew, before Steve Hackett and Phil Collins joined. Alongside pastoral, acoustic passages, the album contains the powerful The Knife, which foreshadowed the later, more dynamic Genesis. Trespass is regarded as an important early document in the band's development.
