INXS

INXS formed in Sydney in 1977 around six members who stayed together for two decades: singer Michael Hutchence, brothers Andrew, Tim and Jon Farriss, guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly, and bassist Garry Gary Beers. Shabooh Shoobah (1982), with "The One Thing" and "Don't Change", took them beyond Australia, and The Swing and Listen Like Thieves sharpened the funk-driven, tightly played sound that followed. Kick, released in 1987, became their biggest album, with four US top 10 singles and "Need You Tonight" reaching number one. X, the UK chart-topping Welcome to Wherever You Are, and Full Moon, Dirty Hearts came after it. Elegantly Wasted from 1997 was the last album with Hutchence, who died in Sydney on 22 November 1997. The band kept performing with other singers for years afterwards.
