This compilation covers the years Miles Davis spent at Warner Bros. from 1985 onwards, the final phase of his career. These are the years of his work with bassist and producer Marcus Miller, who wrote and produced Tutu, Music from Siesta and Amandla, and of the hip-hop-oriented closing chapter around Doo-Bop. The emphasis therefore falls on the electric, funk- and R&B-coloured side of Davis: muted trumpet over programming, synthesizers and drum machines instead of an acoustic rhythm section. Listeners who know Davis mainly from Kind of Blue or Bitches Brew will hear a very different, studio-driven way of working here.
