Songs for Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts was originally released in 2019 and contained in full the four concerts Jimi Hendrix gave with Band of Gypsys, consisting of Billy Cox and Buddy Miles, on New Year's Eve 1969 and New Year's Day 1970 at the Fillmore East. These concerts served at the time as the source for the 1970 live album Band of Gypsys. The album contained dozens of recordings that had not been released before or only in abbreviated form. The music leaned heavily on funk and r&b, with tracks such as Machine Gun, Power of Soul and Who Knows. The tapes were handled by, among others, Eddie Kramer. They were the last full concert recordings from the life of Hendrix, who died in September 1970.
