Unleashed in the East originally appeared in 1979 and captured the Judas Priest live set during that year's Japanese tour. Sinner, Victim of Changes, The Ripper, and Genocide from the early Gull years sound tighter and harder here than in their studio versions, and the Joan Baez cover Diamonds and Rust is pushed hard. The album earned the band its first gold record in the United States. How far the vocals were reworked in the studio has been debated ever since, which gave the album the nickname Unleashed in the Studio.
