GNX originally appeared in November 2024 with no announcement at all. The sixth studio album takes its name from the Buick Grand National GNX that Kendrick Lamar was driven home from the hospital in as a newborn, and it sounds that West Coast too: mariachi vocals from Deyra Barrera, G-funk basslines, and a row of young Los Angeles rappers such as AzChike, Dody6, and Peysoh. Lamar made it with Sounwave, Jack Antonoff, and Mustard, who told Variety they recorded close to a hundred songs before twelve were left. Luther with SZA spent thirteen weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2026.
