Noise, feedback and Courtney Love's screaming: Hole's debut is the loudest album in the band's catalogue, far removed from the tighter songs that brought their breakthrough in 1994. Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Don Fleming of Gumball recorded it in March 1991 at Music Box Studios in Hollywood and left the rough edges in place. The only single, "Teenage Whore", entered the UK indie chart at number 1. Pretty on the Inside was originally released on Caroline Records, two years after Love and Eric Erlandson started the band in Los Angeles.
