Kind of Blue grew out of two sessions at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York, in March and April 1959. Miles Davis handed his sextet little more than scale structures and a few sketches, so that the soloists were no longer steered by a chord sequence. That line-up was exceptional: John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans and, on one piece, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. "So What", "Freddie Freeloader" and "Blue in Green" became standards, and the album has been certified several times over as the best-selling jazz record in the United States. It originally appeared in 1959 on Columbia. This edition is an LP.
