This compilation sets eight recordings from the Prestige years of Miles Davis side by side, made on 16 November 1955, 11 May 1956 and 26 October 1956 by Rudy Van Gelder at his studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. It is the work of the first great quintet: Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, the line-up that filled the albums Cookin', Relaxin', Workin' and Steamin' in two marathon sessions. The selection runs from the ballads "'Round Midnight" and "My Funny Valentine" to the bop pieces "Oleo", "Airegin" and "Four". Craft Recordings released it on 13 March 2026, in the centenary year of Davis' birth. This edition is an LP.
