Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak cut nine songs at Shampoo Press & Curl in Los Angeles between 2020 and 2021, with Bootsy Collins as master of ceremonies and D'Mile as their steady co-producer. The result leans audibly on the soul and funk of the 1960s and 1970s: strings, finger snaps, falsetto harmonies and a rhythm section that holds the groove rather than pushing it. An Evening with Silk Sonic is the duo's debut album, originally released in 2021 through Aftermath Entertainment and Atlantic Records. Opening single Leave the Door Open reached number one on the US Hot 100, followed by Skate and Smokin Out The Window. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number two and holds an average of 83 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic.
