Core put Stone Temple Pilots on the map in one move. The debut originally came out in September 1992 on Atlantic Records, climbed to number 3 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than eight million copies in the United States. The band worked in two registers: Sex Type Thing and Wicked Garden are built on heavy, stomping riffs, while Plush and Creep run on melody and dynamics. Plush won the 1994 Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance and, along with Dead & Bloated and Crackerman, stayed on rock radio for years.
