Off the Wall originally appeared in 1979 and was the first album Michael Jackson made as an adult solo artist, with Quincy Jones producing. Disco, funk, and soul run into one another, carried by horns and strings. Rod Temperton wrote three songs, among them "Rock with You" and the title track, and Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney each contributed one. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You" both went to number one in the United States, while the ballad "She's Out of My Life" showed a quieter side. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" won Jackson his first Grammy as a solo artist in 1980.
