Toast is the album Neil Young and Crazy Horse recorded in 2001 at the San Francisco studio of the same name and then left on the shelf for twenty years. Young found the material too downbeat to release at the time. The seven songs are largely about a relationship coming apart, in slow, extended performances in which the band is in no hurry anywhere, with "Goin' Home" and "Standing in the Light of Love" as the longest stretches. Some of this material he re-recorded shortly afterwards for Are You Passionate?, in a very different form. The album finally came out in July 2022 on Reprise Records. This edition is a 2-LP on black vinyl, with an etching on side four.
