Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd broke through in 1967 as a psychedelic band built around singer and guitarist Syd Barrett, and after his departure grew into one of the biggest names in progressive rock. With David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason, the group made albums conceived as a single continuous piece: The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) on time, money and mental strain, the Barrett tribute Wish You Were Here (1975), the political Animals (1977) and the concept album The Wall (1979). Long instrumental passages, tape effects and Gilmour's guitar solos became their trademark, as did the sleeves by design studio Hipgnosis and the light and projection shows the band toured with. After Waters left in 1985, Gilmour carried the band on with A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell; The Endless River, from 2014, was the final studio album. In 2005 the four musicians shared a stage one last time at Live 8.
