Bright Eyes returned in 2020 with Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, their first album after nine quiet years and their first for Dead Oceans. It was recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha and at Electro-Vox and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, with Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass and Jon Theodore on drums. "Persona Non Grata", "Mariana Trench", "One and Done", and "Forced Convalescence" were released as singles. Nate Walcott's arrangements give the songs a wider, more cinematic frame than the early work.
