Presence came together under pressure. Robert Plant was badly injured in a car crash on Rhodes in August 1975; the tour was cancelled and the band decamped to Musicland Studios in Munich, where the seventh studio album was recorded in eighteen days. Plant sang his parts from a wheelchair. There is no acoustic guitar and no keyboard on it: what remains is guitar, bass and drums, with Jimmy Page stacking the layers himself. Opener 'Achilles Last Stand' runs past ten minutes, 'Nobody's Fault But Mine' reworks an old blues, and 'Tea for One' closes at the slowest tempo the band ever held.
