The 2nd Law is the sixth studio album by Muse, released in 2012. The title refers to the second law of thermodynamics, and that theme returns in lyrics about energy, depletion and decay. 'Survival' became the official song of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, 'Madness' turns on a pulsing bass loop, and Chris Wolstenholme sings lead on 'Save Me' and 'Liquid State', two songs about his alcohol addiction. In the closing 'Unsustainable' the band moves openly towards dubstep, with strings giving way to electronic bass. The album entered the UK chart at number one.
