Amorica grew out of an album that never appeared. After The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion the band spent 1993 recording under the working title Tall, was unhappy with the results and re-cut part of the material in a looser, roomier style. The third studio album was originally released on 1 November 1994 through American Recordings, produced by the band together with Jack Joseph Puig. Gone, A Conspiracy, High Head Blues and Wiser Time show where that led: stretched-out guitar work, wah-wah, percussion and the keyboards of Eddie Harsch. Rolling Stone reviewer Paul Evans heard "cocky pillaging of the universal jukebox" in it. The sleeve became just as well known, a close-up of stars-and-stripes bikini bottoms taken from a 1976 Hustler cover, which chains such as Walmart refused, after which a censored version followed.

This edition is a 3-CD set: the remastered album with bonus tracks, the never released Tallest and the 1992 Marie Laveau sessions, plus a 1994 live EP.
