The Kinks' debut album originally came out in October 1964 and is for the most part still the work of a London R&B band: covers of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Slim Harpo, cut in a matter of days. What gave the album its place is You Really Got Me, whose sound Dave Davies created by slicing open the speaker cone of his small amplifier with a razor blade. That short, distorted riff went to number one in Britain and is still named as an early blueprint for hard rock and punk. Stop Your Sobbing, an early Ray Davies original, is here too, turned into a hit by The Pretenders in 1979. This edition is an LP.
