The Kinks

The Kinks formed in 1963 in the London district of Muswell Hill, around brothers Ray and Dave Davies. The distorted guitar riff of You Really Got Me made their name in 1964 and counts among the building blocks of hard rock and punk. Ray Davies then turned to short, sharply observed songs about English lives, from Sunny Afternoon and Waterloo Sunset to concept albums such as The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur. A performance ban kept the band out of the United States between 1965 and 1969, Lola gave them another worldwide hit in 1970, and through the seventies and eighties they moved towards harder arena rock on albums like Low Budget and Give the People What They Want. The band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and came to an end in 1996.

This collection brings together The Kinks on vinyl, LP and CD: reissues of the early albums, the later studio records, box sets and individual titles from across their career.
