Women and Children First originally appeared in March 1980 as Van Halen's third studio album, and was the first without any cover versions: every song came from the band itself. Ted Templeman kept the recording tight and raw. And the Cradle Will Rock... opens with a Wurlitzer electric piano run through a guitar amplifier, Everybody Wants Some!! is built on a tribal drum intro from Alex Van Halen, and Could This Be Magic? is an acoustic track with vocals from Nicolette Larson. The first pressing came with a fold-out poster of David Lee Roth.
