Van Halen

Van Halen formed in Pasadena in 1974 around brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, with singer David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony. The self-titled 1978 debut reset the standard for hard rock guitar playing: the instrumental Eruption turned tapping into common currency for a whole generation of players. The Roth era closed with the album 1984, which produced Jump, the band's only US number-one hit. Sammy Hagar then sang on four studio albums that each went to number one on the Billboard album chart: 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance. Gary Cherone took over for Van Halen III (1998), and Roth returned in 2012 for A Different Kind of Truth. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen died in 2020; the band had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2007.

This collection brings together Van Halen on vinyl, LP and CD: reissues of the studio albums from both singers' eras, box sets covering the early catalogue and official live recordings from the eighties and nineties.
