The Electrifying Aretha Franklin is her second studio album, originally released on 19 March 1962 by Columbia. John Hammond produced, Richard Wess wrote the arrangements and it was recorded at the Columbia studio on Seventh Avenue in New York. Strings and a big band sit behind her voice, in a repertoire that moves from pop standards towards blues. The single Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody, the Al Jolson classic, reached number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961. The album was prepared under the working title The Incomparable Aretha Franklin.
