With Glass Houses Billy Joel answered the charge that he was mainly a soft balladeer. The album, originally from 1980, opens with the sound of breaking glass and leans on guitar more heavily than anything he had made before, with the new wave of the moment clearly audible in You May Be Right and Sometimes a Fantasy. It's Still Rock and Roll to Me became his first number 1 in the United States, and the album won him a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male. The sleeve shows Joel with a rock in his hand in front of his own glass house on Long Island.
