The Nylon Curtain is the album on which Billy Joel started writing about America itself. Allentown is about a steel town where the work disappeared, Goodnight Saigon about Vietnam veterans, Pressure about the demand to keep performing. Joel wrote and recorded it after a motorcycle accident had kept him out of action for months, and together with producer Phil Ramone he built a dense, heavily worked studio sound with audible Beatles influence. The album originally dates from 1982.
