Three Imaginary Boys, released in 1979, was the debut album by the British band The Cure, recorded as a trio led by singer and guitarist Robert Smith. The record captured the group's early, minimalist post-punk, with sharp, nervy guitar lines and a spare production. Songs such as '10:15 Saturday Night', 'Fire in Cairo' and the title track showcased Smith's idiosyncratic songwriting in its infancy. A surprising cover of Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxy Lady' also found a place. The album laid the groundwork for The Cure's later, darker and more atmospheric direction.
