The Cure

The Cure formed in 1976 in Crawley, England, and since the debut Three Imaginary Boys has revolved around singer, guitarist and songwriter Robert Smith, the only constant in a line-up that kept changing. On Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography the sound grew sparser, slower and darker; those three albums form the core of the band's early post-punk. From The Head on the Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me onwards came colourful, melodic singles such as 'Close to Me', 'Just Like Heaven' and 'Friday I'm in Love'. Disintegration (1989) drew both sides together and gave the band a number 2 placing on the American Billboard Hot 100 with 'Lovesong'. In 2024 came Songs of a Lost World, the first studio album in sixteen years, which entered the UK chart at number 1.
