Buddha of Suburbia originally grew in 1993 out of the music David Bowie wrote for the BBC series of the same name, based on Hanif Kureishi's novel, though he developed the material into a full studio album. It is one of his more experimental records, blending ambient, art-rock and jazz influences; Bowie himself called it one of his favourite works. Guitarist Lenny Kravitz appears on the title track.
