Toy consists of recordings David Bowie made in 2000 with his touring band of the time, largely revisiting his own 1960s songs in new arrangements, along with a few new tracks. The project was shelved at the time and was originally released only in 2021, followed by a standalone edition in 2022. Producer Mark Plati worked alongside musicians such as Earl Slick, Gail Ann Dorsey and Mike Garson.
