Violator is where Depeche Mode broke through worldwide. The seventh studio album originally appeared in 1990 on Mute, produced by Flood, with the synthesizers sharing space with bluesy guitar figures. Personal Jesus opens on a stomping, almost rockabilly riff, while Enjoy the Silence wraps its melancholy in a danceable shape; that single won the 1991 Brit Award for Best British Single. Policy of Truth and World in My Eyes followed as singles. The restrained production, with plenty of air between the sounds, is what made the band huge in the United States. This edition is an LP.
