Trespass originally appeared in 1970 and is the second Genesis album, recorded by Peter Gabriel on vocals and flute, Tony Banks on organ and piano, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips on guitar, and John Mayhew on drums. The light pop songs of the debut gave way here to long pieces built on twelve-string acoustic guitars, parallel vocal lines, and sudden eruptions, sharpest in the closing The Knife, which stayed in the live set for years afterwards. Phillips left the band shortly after the sessions because of stage fright and health problems, and Steve Hackett and Phil Collins came in.
