Grateful Dead's seventh studio album, From the Mars Hotel, first appeared in 1974. It holds several songs that became central to their repertoire, including "U.S. Blues", "Scarlet Begonias", "Ship of Fools" and "China Doll". It also features "Unbroken Chain", written by bassist Phil Lesh, a song the band did not perform live for many years.
