Somewhere in Time is the sixth studio album by Iron Maiden, originally released in 1986 and produced by Martin Birch. For the first time the band used guitar and bass synthesizers, giving the album a wider, more futuristic sound without resorting to keyboards. Guitarist Adrian Smith contributed two of its best-known songs in Wasted Years and Stranger in a Strange Land, while Steve Harris wrote the long, narrative Alexander the Great. It was the first Maiden album since his arrival on which Bruce Dickinson did not write a single track. Derek Riggs' sleeve depicts mascot Eddie as a cyborg in a neon-lit city packed with references to the band's history.
