John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band was John Lennon's first solo album and originally appeared in December 1970. He recorded it as a trio, with himself on guitar and piano, Klaus Voormann on bass, and Ringo Starr on drums, and produced it together with Yoko Ono and Phil Spector. The songs are short and bare, without arrangements to soften the voice: Mother about the loss of his parents, Working Class Hero as an acoustic indictment, and God, in which he renounces his belief in a list of institutions and idols, The Beatles included. The primal scream therapy Lennon went through that year is audible in the way he sings.
This edition is a 2-CD from the deluxe edition, with studio takes of the album on the second disc.
