Reno Road gathers early recordings by guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, made in the early 1960s together with bassist Jack Casady. The two taped the material informally, well before they went on to form Jefferson Airplane and later Hot Tuna. The recordings remained unheard for decades and were only rediscovered and restored much later. The record mainly features renditions of blues and folk standards that would later become staples of the Hot Tuna repertoire, with titles such as Death Don't Have No Mercy and Trouble In Mind. As a historical document, it reveals how Kaukonen's distinctive fingerpicking style took shape early on.
