The Nothing is the first album Korn recorded after the deaths of Jonathan Davis' wife Deven and his mother, and that loss shapes the lyrics, not least on "Finally Free". Davis treated the sessions as therapy: where he would normally track the vocals for a Korn record in two weeks, he spent around four months on them this time, and some of his emotional breakdowns were left audible on the album. Nick Raskulinecz produced the nu metal band's thirteenth studio album, originally released in 2019 through Roadrunner and Elektra. The title refers to the villain from The NeverEnding Story. "You'll Never Find Me", "Cold" and "Can You Hear Me" were released as singles ahead of the album. With a score of 83 on Metacritic, The Nothing is the highest-rated Korn album on the site.
