"Video Games" announced her, and in 2012 Lana Del Rey built a sound around it that would colour pop for years: slow beats under cinematic strings, sung by someone presenting herself as a doomed American film star. Born to Die was her second studio album and her first for a major label, adding "Blue Jeans", "National Anthem", and "Summertime Sadness", which later became a worldwide hit through a remix. Producer Emile Haynie shaped most of the sound, with hip-hop drums, harp, and strings behind lyrics about fatal love affairs, money, and American mythology.
