Before there was a record deal, Jimmy Page booked the studio time himself: in roughly 36 hours the newly formed band recorded its debut at Olympic Studios in London, with Page producing and Glyn Johns engineering. The album originally appeared in January 1969 on Atlantic Records. 'Good Times Bad Times' opens with John Bonham's bass drum work, 'Dazed and Confused' stretches the blues with a violin bow drawn across the guitar strings, and set against that are the folk ballad 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' and the acoustic 'Black Mountain Side'. 'Communication Breakdown' keeps it to two and a half minutes of driving riff. Robert Plant sang, John Paul Jones played bass and keyboards. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 101 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. This edition is a 3-LP on black vinyl.
