Minutes to Midnight, originally from 2007, broke with the pattern of the first two albums. Linkin Park worked with producer Rick Rubin for the first time, wrote and discarded a large amount of material and largely let go of nu metal in favour of alternative rock. 'Shadow of the Day' and 'Leave Out All the Rest' form the quiet side, 'Given Up' and 'Bleed It Out' the heavy one. 'What I've Done' became the lead single and featured in the film Transformers. The title refers to the Doomsday Clock. The album went to number 1 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
This edition is a CD with three bonus tracks: 'No Roads Left', a distorted mix of 'What I've Done' and a session version of 'Given Up'.
