Butterfly is Mariah Carey's sixth studio album and first appeared in 1997, during the period in which she moved away, professionally and personally, from Sony executive Tommy Mottola. Musically she shifted clearly towards hip-hop and R&B: Honey was produced with Puff Daddy and The Ummah, Breakdown gained verses from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and The Beautiful Ones is a Prince cover with Dru Hill. Set against those are the ballads My All and the title track.
