Hardwired... To Self-Destruct arrived in November 2016, eight years after Death Magnetic, carrying on the return to tight thrash writing that album had begun. Its twelve tracks are spread across two discs; Greg Fidelman, who had already worked on Death Magnetic, produced alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. The title track is over in under three and a half minutes, while Atlas, Rise!, Moth Into Flame and closer Spit Out the Bone show the longer, more worked-out side. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
