Decoy captures what the Miles Davis band looked like in 1983, when John Scofield came in on guitar and Branford Marsalis played on two pieces. Part of the material comes from a concert in Montreal whose basic tracks were later worked over in the studio; bassist Darryl Jones, drummer Al Foster and percussionist Mino Cinelu drive the record. Keyboard player Robert Irving III co-produced and layered synthesizers over the top. The result leans harder on electronics and funk rhythms than its predecessor Star People, with titles such as "Robot 415", "Code M.D." and "That's What Happened". The album originally came out in 1984 on Columbia. This edition is an LP on clear vinyl.
