For her seventh studio album Mitski traded synthesizers for acoustic instruments, choral voices, and pedal steel. The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We first appeared in September 2023 on Dead Oceans, recorded at the Bomb Shelter in Nashville and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, with Patrick Hyland producing. The songs lean on americana, country, and orchestral pop; 'Bug Like an Angel' opens with voice and guitar before a choir comes in. 'My Love Mine All Mine' grew into her most successful song and her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 26.
